A 10cm acrylic claw clip, shaped to follow the curve of the back of your head. The inner section is slatted rather than solid, which is what grips the hair and keeps a twist from sliding out through the day. Japanese/Korean style — plain and glossy rather than decorative.

Good for: Twisting shoulder-length to long hair up in one movement and leaving it there. It's the clip for a workday, a drive, or anywhere you'll be sitting back against something.

Not for you if: Your hair is very short or very fine — a 10cm claw needs enough hair to bite into, or it slips.

What it won't do: It won't hold a full updo through a gym session or a windy day without a pin or two. Acrylic is a rigid plastic — it's matte and light, but it's more brittle than the cellulose acetate used in premium clips, and it can snap if you drop it on a tiled floor or force the jaw past its opening. Treat it as an everyday clip, not an heirloom.

Gather your hair into a low ponytail with your hand, no elastic needed.
Twist the length upwards until the twist sits flat against your head.
Open the clip and set the slatted inner section against the twist first, close to your scalp.
Close the jaw so it catches both the twist and a little of the hair underneath — that bottom layer is what stops it sliding down.
Let the tail fall where it wants. Tuck it under and re-clip if you'd rather it was hidden.
To take it out, open the jaw fully before you pull it away. Yanking a closed clip out is how they break, and how hair breaks.

Does it dig into your head? No — the curved back is the point of it. It sits flat enough to lean against a headrest or a chair.

Will it snap? It can, if you drop it on a hard floor or force the jaw wider than it opens. Acrylic is rigid. Most people get a long life out of one by opening it fully before removing it.

Is the colour exactly as shown? Close, but screens vary. [The supplier's own images carry this disclaimer — worth repeating honestly rather than dropping it.]

Can I sleep in it? Not recommended. A rigid clip against a pillow is uncomfortable and it stresses the hinge.

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Keep it away from heat — don't leave it on a sunny dashboard or clip it into hair you're about to straighten, as acrylic warps. Hairspray and perfume can cloud the gloss over time, so clip it in after you've finished spraying, not before. Store it closed rather than propped open, which keeps tension off the hinge.
