What it is

A hand-held wand with a T-shaped head that follows the line of your neck and jaw. The two metal wings on the head are the contacts that carry the current; the strip between them is the LED. One button cycles through the modes, and the panel on the body shows which one you're on — intensity level, eye, clean, EMS and heat.

EMS sends a low electrical pulse into the muscle underneath. Heat mode warms the skin so products absorb better. The light is a gentle addition rather than the main event.

Good for: It won't hold a full updo through a gym session or a windy day without a pin or two. Acrylic is a rigid plastic — it's matte and light, but it's more brittle than the cellulose acetate used in premium clips, and it can snap if you drop it on a tiled floor or force the jaw past its opening. Treat it as an everyday clip, not an heirloom.

Not for you if: You're pregnant, you have a pacemaker or any implanted electronic device, you have epilepsy, you have a heart condition, you have metal implants or fillers where you'd be using it, you've had injectables in the last two weeks, or you have active cancer. Don't use it on broken, sore or sunburnt skin, over the thyroid, or on the eyelids. If you're unsure, ask your doctor before you buy.

What it won't do: It won't remove wrinkles or lines, and it won't lift or tighten anything permanently. Any change is gradual and modest, comes from weeks of consistent use, and fades if you stop. It won't do what a clinical treatment does, and it isn't a substitute for anything a doctor or dermatologist offers.

How to use it
  • Wash your neck and face and dry them.
  • Apply a conductive gel over the area. EMS needs gel — on dry skin it won't conduct properly and it can sting or spark.
  • Press and hold to switch on, then tap to cycle modes. Start on the lowest intensity level.
  • Rest the metal wings flat against your skin before you raise the intensity.
  • Work upward and outward — up the neck toward the jaw, then out along the jawline toward the ear. Keep it moving; don't park it on one spot.
  • Five minutes an area. Longer isn't better.
  • Use eye mode only on the bone around the eye — the orbital ridge and the outer corner. Never on the lid itself.
  • Lower the intensity and switch off before lifting it away. Rinse the gel off and follow with your moisturiser.
  • Three or four nights a week, with a night in between. Not on the same night as retinol or acids.

Common questions

Do I need a gel? Yes. EMS won't conduct on dry skin, and without gel it can feel sharp.

What does it feel like? A tingle and gentle warmth, sometimes a slight twitch in the muscle. If it stings, jumps or you taste metal, drop the intensity and add more gel.

Can I use it around my eyes? Only on the bone — the ridge under the brow and the outer corner. Never on the lid or over the eyeball.

How long until I see anything? Skin often looks a little more awake straight after a session, and that's temporary. Anything beyond that takes weeks, is subtle, and doesn't stay if you stop.

Can I use it with retinol or acids? Not on the same night.

Is it safe with fillers or Botox? Ask whoever administered them. As a general rule, wait at least two weeks and avoid treated areas.

Can I use it every day? Three or four nights a week is plenty.

Wipe the metal contacts with a damp cloth after every use and dry them immediately — gel left sitting on metal corrodes it, and corroded contacts conduct badly. Never submerge the body or hold it under a tap. Let it dry fully before you charge it. Store it somewhere dry, not in a hot car, and don't leave it charging overnight.
